CIPD Student

This module provides the opportunity for learners to demonstrate the ability to diagnose and investigate a live, complex business issue from an HR perspective, to locate the work within the body of contemporary knowledge, to collect and analyse data, to derive supportable conclusions and to make practical and actionable recommendations for change, improvement or enhancement of current practice.

The applied nature of the report requires a critical evaluative approach, empirical investigation and analysis and a combination of academic research and business report writing skills.

The new Advanced Level Awards in Human Resources from CIPD enable you to broaden and deepen your knowledge and skills on a particular subject while providing an ideal opportunity for supporting continuing professional development (CPD).

To achieve an Advanced Level Award in Human Resources, you need a total of 15 credits. Each module delivered by ICS Learn is worth 15 credits.

Key Topics

The Learning Outcomes for this module are shown below. By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Identify and justify a business issue that is of strategic relevance to the organisation
  2. Critically analyse and discuss existing literature, contemporary HR policy and practice relevant to the chosen issue
  3. Compare and contrast the relative merits of different research methods and their relevance to different situations
  4. Undertake a systematic analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative information and present the results in a clear and consistent format
  5. Draw realistic and appropriate conclusions and make recommendations based on costed options
  6. Develop and present a persuasive business report
  7. Write a reflective account of what has been learned during the project and how this can be applied in the future.

This is a Level 7 programme and requires a good level of HR experience.

The Advanced Level Awards in Human Resources are for those who:

  1. Have the responsibility for HR decision-making within an organisation at either operational, tactical or a more strategic level
  2. Are HR professionals in a team or HR functional management role, and are seeing to enhance and develop their career
  3. Have responsibilities for the HR function and activities within an organisation without a specialist function
  4. Are independent or employed consultants who support organisations in meeting their goals.

If English is not your first language, you will be required to have an IELTS score of 6 or above.

As all the modules form part of the Advanced level diploma, you can also use your award to work towards meeting the knowledge requirements for CIPD professional membership (Associate, Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow) by taking additional modules to achieve a full Advanced level diploma.

On completion, you'll receive a CIPD Advanced Award in Human Resources.

In this module, the final assessment is a project that you complete on an HR-related business issue of your choice. As you work through the learning material you will develop that project step by step. Hence, by the time that you get to the end of all the learning material your assessment will nearly be complete.

Because we're experts in home learning, we offer all the support you need along the way.  You'll receive access to online study materials that have been specially designed for online learning by experts in your fields of study, and have access to both your tutors and mentor online and over the phone.

You'll also be part of our online Student Community, where you'll have access to library materials and your account information, as well as vital links with your fellow students.

You will also receive the following textbook: Saunders, M., Lewis, P. and Thornhill, A. (2009) Research Methods for Business Students, 5th edition, FT Prentice Hall.

You can either pay for your course in full or opt for an interest-free monthly payment plan.
