The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management Skills is ideal if you're a mid-level manager looking to develop your skills in preparation for a senior management role.

It's also suitable if you've completed the ILM Level 3 Certificate, have experience as a manager, and want to extend your managerial knowledge.

The ILM Level 5 Certificate will build on and broaden the skills you already have, giving you practical techniques to excel as a strong, effective leader. You'll focus on:

  1. Developing your ability to lead, motivate and inspire
  2. Providing strategic leadership as well as day-to-day management
  3. Benchmarking your managerial skills
  4. Raising your profile in your organisation

The course is accredited by ILM, the UK's leading management training organisation, so your qualification will be internationally recognised and well-respected by employers. At 65 guided learning hours, it's the perfect way to demonstrate that you're ready for the next big step in your career.

On the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management course, you'll cover three units:

Unit 1 – Developing Critical Thinking (4 credits)

By the end of the unit, you'll:

  1. Be able to critically assess your own beliefs, attitudes and value systems
  2. Be able to critically assess the validity of management theories in relation to your own beliefs, attitudes and values

Unit 2 – Leading Innovation and Change (5 credits)

By the end of the unit, you'll:

  1. Be able to identify the need for and propose change
  2. Use tools and leadership models to manage a change
  3. Have completed a real work-based change management project for your end-of-unit assessment

Unit 3 – Developing Your Leadership Styles (4 credits)

By the end of the unit, you'll:

  1. Understand the outcomes of effective leadership
  2. Understand the implications of your own leadership styles, both for yourself and for leadership within your organisation
  3. Be able to assess your own leadership behaviour, in terms of the factors which determine effective leadership
  4. Understand how to develop your own leadership style and effectiveness

This course is ideal for mid-level managers who want to prepare themselves for senior management duties and responsibilities. It's also suitable for those with managerial experience who've completed the ILM Level 3 Certificate and want to build on their existing knowledge.

You don't need any formal qualifications to enrol on this course, but you should have at least two years full-time or three-years part time work experience.

You must be over 18.

If you're seeking a senior management role, this qualification will demonstrate to employers conclusively that you have what it takes to be a strong, efficient leader. You'll be in prime position for promotion and be able to excel in senior managerial roles in companies of every size.

You could continue your learning with Level 6 and Level 7 ILM qualifications, which are designed for senior managers such as CEOs.

You’ll be assigned an expert academic tutor who'll be with you from enrolment to graduation. They’ll also give you test papers and mock exams to ensure you’re ready to pass your exams. All your papers will be given constructive feedback so you know exactly what your strengths are and what you can improve.
