CIPD Student Stories: Megan Reardon | CIPD Level 5 Review

Hoping to expand HR knowledge and develop in her career, Megan decided to enrol on a CIPD Level 5 qualification with us to get ahead. Find out more about her story below.

At the end of 2018, I decided to start looking at providers to study a CIPD Level 5 qualification in HR. I was at the time working as an HR Coordinator but looking to expand my HR theory and knowledge to accelerate my career in HR. 

Since I was working full time, I was looking for a provider who would allow me to study and complete my studies 100% online and remotely to fit around my life.

When I first started studying, it was a bit overwhelming knowing that I had to rely on my own motivation and time management to get the work done. However, you learn to get into a good routine with this and my advice to anyone starting to study with ICS Learn is to try not to stop between modules as it can be hard to get back into! 

In the end, though, I was glad to have decided to study via online learning as when the pandemic hit my way of working was not impacted at all. In fact, I was put on furlough for a couple of months and I used this as an opportunity to complete the last four modules of my course. 

When I returned to work, unfortunately, my company had to undertake a large-scale redundancy program due to the pandemic. Having completed my CIPD Level 5, I felt so much more confident going into this and managing the process than I would have without completing my qualification. Shortly after this I also got promoted to HR Advisor too!

Since completing my studies in May 2020, I have joined a new company (a tech startup in the L&D industry) called Filtered as their People Lead. Since completing my studies I have also increased my take-home earning by £10,000 a year. 

I would highly recommend undertaking a CIPD qualification if you are looking to further your HR career and knowledge as well as considering ICS Learn as your provider as I would 100% return to them should I consider moving on to Level 7 in the near future!
