Meet our course advisors

This unit is designed to enable you to develop a sound understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviour required of a professional practitioner. It will enable you to develop a personal development plan, following a self-assessment of learning and development needs that meets your personal and professional requirements.

Foundation Level qualifications are perfect if you want to acquire a wide range of relevant practical skills in HR. With ICS Learn you have the opportunity to study individual awards to either start or top up your HR knowledge.

Structure of Qualification

To achieve a Foundation Award in Human Resources Essentials, you need a total of between 2 and 12 credits. The Foundation Award in HR Essentials in Developing Yourself as an Effective HR/L&D Practitioner has 4 credits.

Key Topics

The learning outcomes for this unit are shown below. By the end of the unit, you will be able to:

  1. Understand what is required to be an effective and efficient HR professional
  2. Be able to perform efficiently and effectively as a self-managing HR professional
  3. Be able to perform efficiently and effectively as a collaborative member of working groups and teams and as an added value contributor to the organisation
  4. Be able to apply CPD techniques to construct, implement and review a personal development plan

This is a Level 3 Foundation programme and is broadly equivalent, in terms of level, to an A-Level programme of study.

The Foundation Level Awards in Human Resources are ideal for:

  1. Those who would like to either start or top up their HR knowledge and expertise
  2. Those working in HR in a support role and wish to develop their knowledge and skills
  3. HR staff who do not have sufficient qualifications to undertake CIPD intermediate or advanced-level qualifications
  4. Line managers who are involved in HR and have responsibility for HR activities and decisions within an organisation without a specialist function

If English is your second language, you’ll need an IELTS 6.5 or ESOL Level 2 (or equivalent). If you don’t have this, we’ll review your case on an individual basis.

If you're unsure that this is the right course for you, speak to our expert CIPD course advisors by phone, email or webchat. They'll take time to learn about your experience, education and ambitions, and help you make the right choice.

As all the units form part of the Foundation Certificate / Diploma in Human Resource Practice, you can also use your Award to work towards meeting the knowledge requirements for CIPD professional membership by taking additional units to achieve the full Foundation Certificate or Diploma in HR Practice.

On completion, you'll receive a CIPD Foundation Award in Human Resources Essentials.

Assessment for this unit is by way of personal development plan (PDP).
