CIPD Student Stories: Gabriela Doran | Level 5 Review

Gabriela chose to study her CIPD Level 5 qualification with us to fill some of the down-time she had during the pandemic. Learn more about her learning journey with us.

I am a Recruitment Consultant specialising in professional support roles based in Dubai. Alongside many of our clients, we are back in the office but at a reduced headcount than usual due to COVID-19.

I had some spare time on my hands given the current crisis! It’s been a while since I studied at University and I was missing structured learning. Completing my CIPD level 5 has been on my “to do” list for some time and I am really glad I now have the opportunity to complete it.

I chose ICS Learn as I am pretty self-motivated and liked that I can complete as much or as little study to suit my current work commitments.

Studying during lockdown was actually a welcome form of escapism! It meant I could channel my focus on learning and I still felt productive during such a strange time. I’ve found the tutors incredibly responsive and helpful, there is a “no question too small” ethos which I really appreciate.

Due to the time difference, accessing the online classes live can be a bit of a challenge from the UAE. Thankfully, they are all recorded and with the assistance of tutors, I can still feel confident in submitting my work.

When I initially accessed my course, it was a little overwhelming as there is so much information and resource available. I found that within a few weeks, I understood the process and was able to use the structure, progress bars, and resource tools to my advantage.

I am aiming to complete my CIPD within 12 months and I feel this is really achievable given all of the learning is accessible online!

After completing my CIPD, I’d like to complete my PRINCE2 as I have found the learning thus far on project management really interesting. Ultimately, I would like to secure an HR role with a strong commercial and project focus. But this is a long-term (post COVID-19!) goal!
