Learning & Development Student Stories:
CIPD Student Stories: Jennifer Devaney | CIPD Level 3 Review

Jennifer Devaney

CIPD Level 3 Certificate

Already a seasoned people professional, Jennifer thought it would be a good idea to enrol on a CIPD Level 3 Certificate to upskill and showcase her credibility.

I wanted to share my story with you as just two weeks ago I finished my CIPD Level 3 Certificate.

I have 7 years HR experience and actually did the HRM qualification 10 years ago. I work at Unilever, a global FMCG company, and have done for 3 years. I was a People Experience Lead, up until this year.

I changed roles internally and now I’ve moved into the Learning and Wellbeing team, working as a Wellbeing Specialist for our Global Supply Chain teams. This involves designing and delivering online webinars, workshops and training sessions on all aspects of wellbeing.

I can learn a lot on the job but felt I really needed to do gain a qualification to demonstrate my credibility.

Studying with ICS Learn was really appealing to me because I liked the flexibility it afforded me to pick up and put down my studies as and when I needed, according to whatever I had going on at that time.

I was daunted by the prospect of going back to studying and completing assignments after so many years. I was also worried about how it would fit while working full time, and if I would have to give up my evenings and weekends completely. However, I needn’t have worried.

The whole process from initial sign up, to finding my way around the online learning platform and the learning itself was simple.

I was really pleasantly surprised that the learning was self-paced, with the option to either join a live classroom with a tutor and ask questions, or reach out to my own personal tutor any time I had a question.

This allowed me to really shape my studies and time commitments, and I felt really reassured that because it is self-paced, I didn't have to commit to particular deadline on attending a live workshop or submitting an assignment. The tutor support I received was efficient and helpful and really ensured I got the assignments right first time.

The monthly payment plans also a great feature of ICS Learn, and really helps students to spread the cost and make further learning accessible for more people.

Now that I have received my qualification, I feel so much better equipped to do my job at work, and feel really grateful for the skills I have learned as they will really help me to create and design the most engaging and beneficial L&D sessions for my employee population.

I’d highly recommend ICS Learn to anyone in a similar situation, who is thinking about perusing further education to demonstrate professional credibility but is maybe worried about studying again after so long - don't be worried, if I can do it, you can too!
