AAT Student Stories: Andreas Korovessis | AAT Level 2 & 3 Review

After a difficult time in and around the pandemic, Andreas decided to change his life and career entirely by enroling on an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting with us before moving on to an Advanced qualification. 

For the last 25 years, I have worked in the catering industry, progressing to senior chef roles and finally to Catering Manager.

In 2019, I received a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and found my physical abilities were being affected. The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 forced the organisation I worked for to discontinue the funding for the project I ran and make me redundant.

Between the hospitality industry struggling and my dealing with my disability, I was worried about ever finding work again.

I had never been very successful academically and with little qualifications outside of my specific area, I had some serious decisions to make!

Accounting had always interested me but I was unsure if I could succeed in the industry. I was concerned about whether I’d be able to study remotely, but I took the leap and contacted ICS Learn.

From the first contact my worries were calmed, the skills test let me know what qualification level I was ready for and I immediately started Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.

I found the course materials, straightforward and self-explanatory, my tutor was really supportive and answered all my questions and concerns the same day I contacted her. Student services were there whenever I needed help with other issues and were even able to arrange extra time for my exams.

I always felt supported and started to progress well getting great results in my exams, the feedback from my tutor gave me confidence and helped me outline areas where I could improve.

9 months on I got my final result and was ecstatic to find I’d passed the course with 92% and received a distinction for the course.

The same week I received my result I was offered a position in the finance department of a law firm, in a position that exceeded my expectations of what I would be able to achieve, with great opportunities for progression.

I’m now studying Leve 3 Advanced Certificate in Accounting, and plan to continue to the Level 4 Professional Certificate in Accounting.

ICS Learn has really helped me turn my life back in a positive direction and allowed me to regain my confidence in my academic abilities. I’m now looking forward to a new career and want to say a huge thanks to ICS Learn and my tutor for helping me make this possible.
