A Level Student Stories: Jessica Sennett | A Level Psychology

Jessica initially felt apprehensive about studying online, but she enrolled on an A Level Psychology course with ICS Learn and achieved the result she always wanted!

In 2021/2022 I studied for and sat an A level in Psychology (AQA) through ICS Learn as the basis for my learning.

I chose to study with ICS Learn as I was unable to attend school due to poor health, which resulted in hospitalisation for a 7 month-long period. Through connecting with other people in a similar situation I was able to discover ICS Learn and the range of courses they have to offer.

I felt this course was a perfect fit for me as it allowed me to work at my own pace, something which a school setting is less accommodating for.

I chose to complete my A-level in a one-year period, rather than the typical two-year course which sixth form provides. To achieve this, I began studying in October 2021 and sat my first paper in May 2022.

I was able to study around other events in my life such as my part-time job as a waitress, and my hobbies which allow me time to relax and develop my skills outside of education.

Initially, I was apprehensive about studying online. One of my main concerns was that I had not experienced learning outside of a school setting before and I was used to having a teacher in school who could direct me through each lesson.

However, the ICS online course provided me with a structured guide to aid my learning which made it more manageable for me to teach myself the content that would be vital for my upcoming exams.

The course also provided extra information to accompany my textbooks and develop my knowledge further, helping me to push my grades up even higher.

I was unsure of how I would keep myself motivated to study from home, but I immediately found the Psychology course to be highly interesting which motivated me to learn more and continue with my studies.

Throughout the course I was always pleased with the support I received from my tutor, Jennifer. I was able to contact her anytime via the online portal, and she was always very responsive and accommodating to my needs.

I especially found the use of topic tests and practice questions helpful during my learning as they allowed me to gain feedback from Jennifer and target my revision at any areas which required improvement.

On results day, I was delighted to find that I had achieved a grade A in my exams. A grade I feel would have been far less possible without the support I received from ICS Learn.

The course has helped me to develop confidence in my learning ability which I will use going forward in September when I begin my additional A-level studies in year 12 at Birmingham Ormiston Academy.

I am very thankful for the services available through ICS Learn and I would definitely recommend this learning tool to anyone who is seeking education outside of a formal setting.
