A Level Student Stories: Aamenah Lunat | A Level Maths

A returning student, Aamenah has now gained both her GCSE Maths & A Level Maths qualifications with ICS Learn. She speaks more about the completion of the A Level Maths course in her story below. 

My journey with ICS Learn began in September 2018 to study and attain a GCSE in Mathematics. Melissa, the in-house maths teacher, made learning mathematics very enjoyable, and so I decided to continue studying mathematics for A-Level.

Pursuing an A-Level with ICS Learn was an easy decision, especially as I had developed a good working relationship with my maths tutor, Ailie, who supported me beyond expectation while attaining both a GCSE and then an A-Level qualification.

Studying with ICS Learn also allowed me the flexibility, that I so desperately needed, being a part-time employee at an academy secondary school and a university student.

Although the mixture of studying and working was a heavy load, Ailie always helped me to refocus when I felt anxious and overwhelmed.

Whenever I found myself performing poorly on an assessment/mock exam which I failed many times, and after that, doubting my abilities to achieve an A-Level, Ailie never faulted in encouraging me to keep going!

It is important to note that ICS Learn's specification for A-Level mathematics follows AQA. However, my personal choice was to follow Edexcel. All tutors at ICS Learn have a copy of the AQA textbook and their written solutions for all questions. Nonetheless, my tutor, Ailie, consistently supported me despite choosing differently. Aside from this, the worked solutions were just incredible.

At times I would struggle with comprehending and logically understanding the reasoning behind mathematical answers, but Ailie’s knowledge and skills were very strong that she would often see my mistakes, and she would recognise my errors.

The resources and preparation for exams offered to students are absolutely great! Melissa held webinars to go through exam-style questions, which was very helpful.

Due to my already busy schedule, I could not attend them all, but I would certainly recommend attending them! ICS Learn always provided me with any important information I needed, whether that be about exams or anything else. This was useful as I was the first cohort to sit an examination after two years due to Covid.

Lastly, I achieved very well in both examinations for the courses I studied through ICS Learn. I achieved an A for my A-Level, which I am certain would not have been possible without my tutor!

This qualification was the last requirement needed to meet the condition of being accepted for a PGCE in Mathematics at UCL, the world’s leading educational institute, which I will be soon starting!
