My name is Elliott, and I’m a senior management consultant for a boutique operational performance improvement consultancy. My line of work involves coaching first- and middle-line management and, in general, improving a business from the ground up to achieve their strategic goals.
I studied the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership with ICS Learn to gain a deeper understanding of the multitude of aspects that are involved in being a manager and to take a step closer towards being a chartered manager and chartered management consultant.
I undertook the course knowing I would need to balance my work responsibilities and learning time. I found the on-demand element of the course enticing, as it meant I wasn’t bound to any live lectures or workshops.
For my exams, I needed the extra support from my employer to give me the time to write the essays and stay on track. Feedback from my tutor helped in this period and often formed part of my regular catch-ups with my own manager.
The course has levelled up my ability to coach and transform other managers. I find myself more comfortable addressing performance issues in my team, and it’s pushed me to evaluate my own management style. I often use the situational leadership model to assess what kind of manager I need to be with newer individuals in the team.
I hope to give back the knowledge I’ve gained to the rest of my colleagues and continue to challenge them in the same way this course has challenged me to learn.
