CIPD Student Stories: Jamie Greenwood | CIPD Level 5 Review

Jamie wanted to kickstart a career in L&D but needed the flexibility to develop while working full-time. Discover more about his learning journey with us below. 

I have always been interested in a career in Learning & Development (L&D) since leaving university. Looking at adverts for relevant roles in the job market; a CIPD qualification instantly jumped out as an industry standard. In summer 2019 I took the plunge and decided to undertake a CIPD Level 5 Diploma in L&D.

My previous learning and educational experiences have always been face-to-face; therefore, I was naturally apprehensive about completing a course that was purely online. However, the experience exceeded my expectations.

The online workshops were engaging, informative and there was always plenty of time at the end to ask the tutor as many questions as you needed to.  The online portal was also easy to navigate and accessible on multiple devices so I could work on the go!

The course itself gave me tremendous insight into the world of L&D and I genuinely enjoyed the modules I completed. I not only learned about the context and foundations of the L&D function but also what the future looked like for L&D and what I can expect from a career in the industry going forward.

The qualification itself supported my integration into an L&D role as a Regional Training Consultant at Lidl UK. I'm now responsible for the training and development of around 1500 employees and gain tremendous satisfaction from the work I do each day in developing people.

Going forward I hope to stabilise myself and become an experienced L&D practitioner, with hopes to move to a Head of L&D/Director role in the future.
