A Level

A Level Student Stories: Hanna Watkin | A Level Psychology

Hanna discovered her love for psychology and wanted to pursue a university degree. This is her story.

When I was 18, I wasn't interested in studying. I hadn't found any subjects I enjoyed and felt lost. Despite all the adults around me implying that this was my one shot at A levels, I didn't do very well. I moved abroad and forged a career as a journalist, but when the pandemic hit, I had time to reflect on what I was truly interested in.

I read The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van der Kolk and was fascinated by the human mind. After exploring my options, I realised that with ICS Learn it was possible to complete an A level and have another shot, despite what we're told as teenagers. In order to test the waters of a career change, I chose to start an A-level in psychology.

This opportunity was fantastic, and I was instantly fascinated by the subject, wishing I'd found it earlier in life but grateful for the ability to follow my interest on my own terms and in my own time.

I was able to fit my studies around my work and life. The online resources were extremely helpful, and speaking to my tutor regularly gave me the confidence to decide to sit the exams a year early.

I completed the A level in one year and couldn't believe it when I received an A* grade – something I hadn't managed to do in school.

Thanks to this course, I was able to apply for university, where I studied psychology and received the highest grade in my cohort after three years of study.

It took a year to find a job I loved, but I am now in my dream role, which would not have been possible without completing an A level with ICS Learn. I'd highly recommend ICS Learn to others, as it can help change your career path and open up new opportunities that you previously only dreamed of.
