System Requirements

Mobile devices

While you can access your course through mobile devices, you may find that some interactive resources may not work to their full ability.

Internet speed

Use a broadband connection through USB wireless modem, ADSL, T1/T2, fibre optic or cable. Your connection should be 256 Kbit/second or faster to ensure that you can view videos and online presentations.

Internet browsers

To help you get the best out of your Student Community, we recommend you keep all your browsers up-to-date with the latest versions. Below is a table detailing our browser requirements for a flawless Student Community experience:

Also for our inductions and online classrooms we use a system called webex, this helps us give the user the best experience when online learning with ICS Learn. The software/plugin is free for the student to use and is a simple setup by download or browser plugin. more information and system requirements on the webex product can be found here and also the chrome extension can be found here

Internet Explorer 9 Latest Version 10 is required for drag-and-drop upload of content from outside the browser into Moodle.

Settings

We recommend that the following be enabled:

  1. Cookies
  2. Pop-ups (in both internet browser and security software)
  3. Javascript

Plug-ins

We recommend that you use the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.

Resource viewing

We recommend that you use the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

To view all the resources uploaded to the Student Community, you will probably need to have Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or an equivalent (e.g. Open Office, Viewer) installed.

Firewalls

With all firewalls, ensure that you enable uploading of files.

If you plan to study from a public place such as an office or the library, please investigate firewalls that may restrict your experience. You may need to talk to your boss or IT team to ensure that you will have access to common sites such as Dropbox. While they may not be essential, a number of external sites will be listed throughout your course as recommended reading.
