The CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Learning & Development is an essential introduction to the fundamentals of L&D. It's a highly practical, real-world course that you can put to use from day one.

You might already be working in an L&D-related role, or perhaps you'd like to make a move into this popular and highly rewarding field. Either way, a qualification from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Europe's largest HR and Personnel Development body, will show employers that you have what it takes to develop both an effective workforce and your own career. 

The CIPD Level 3 Certificate in L&D will give you a thorough grounding in the training cycle and the fundamentals of learning and development. You'll learn how to identify training needs then plan, deliver and evaluate professional development activities in response to those needs.

Through this course, you'll be developing your skills and career options while you learn to do the same for others. It'll give you the confidence to be more effective at work and to add value to your HR or training function.

To achieve the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Learning & Development, you need a total of 26 credits, which you'll gain from the following core units:

  1. Becoming an Effective L&D Practitioner (4 credits)
  2. L&D and the organisation (4 credits)
  3. Identifying L&D Needs (3 credits)
  4. Designing L&D Activities (6 credits)
  5. Delivering L&D Activities (6 credits)
  6. Evaluating L&D Activities (3 credits)

Workshops

You'll attend one workshop on the CIPD Foundation Certificate course. This gives you the opportunity to:

  1. Network with like-minded professionals
  2. Practice and build confidence in the new skills you'll have learned
  3. Meet your tutor face-to-face

The workshop fee is additional to your course fee. Please speak to our course advisors for more information on the workshop.

You don't need any prior qualifications or experience to enrol on this Foundation Level L&D course. Some experience in HR/L&D support or management would be beneficial, but this isn't essential.

You should be proficient in English and have access to email and the internet. 

This course is ideal if you:

  1. Want to gain the essential knowledge and skills required to move into L&D
  2. Are working in an HR or L&D support role but don't hold a formal HR or L&D qualification
  3. Are a current line manager with responsibility for people management and development
  4. Are looking to become a professional member of the CIPD (Assoc CIPD)

With a Foundation qualification in Learning & Development from the leading professional body in the field, you'll be ready to excel in an entry/support-level L&D or training role.

Examples of roles you could enter or progress in with the CIPD Level 3 Certificate in L&D include:

  1. L&D Assistant
  2. L&D Coordinator
  3. L&D Administrator
  4. Trainer

Any CIPD qualification is highly attractive to employers, as it demonstrates both your professional expertise and your commitment to furthering your career.

Plus, once you graduate, you'll automatically become an Associate Member of CIPD, showing that you hold yourself to the highest professional standards.

If you decide to continue your professional development with CIPD, your study and further experience could lead to Chartered status with the Institute, and the potential for lucrative and rewarding senior level roles.

You could continue your professional development by taking the full CIPD Level 3 Diploma in L&D, of which this Certificate forms a part. 

You could also progress to the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate or the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Diploma in L&D

Certificates give you key knowledge and skills; Diplomas cover more units and therefore give you a more comprehensive knowledge of L&D.

You can either pay for your course in full or opt for an interest-free payment plan. You'll pay a small deposit and the rest by monthly direct debit. Our plans are flexible, so you can extend the terms or pay your balance off sooner if you choose.

Your course materials have been specially designed for online learning by experts in the field. You'll work through step-by-step modules so you can easily keep track of your progress.

You'll have the opportunity to join a live induction webinar when you start your course. It's designed to help you navigate your way around the student community, to offer you help and support, and most importantly to give you a warm and friendly welcome to ICS Learn. We usually hold one a week, and you can attend any one that suits you.
