Why is this course right for you?

This postgraduate-level course will give you a rigorous framework of evidence-based people management and development knowledge that will underpin your development as an HR leader.

You'll first become familiar with contemporary research on effective approaches to HR and L&D, then examine major theoretical and practical debates in the fields of leadership, flexibility, and change management.

You'll become an outstanding manager as well as an effective HR specialist, confidently able to increase the levels of engagement, commitment, motivation and performance in your organisation.

Entry requirements

This is an Advanced Level 7 course, so you should have a good level of HR experience and be prepared to undertake postgraduate-level study.

A degree-based educational background would also be beneficial.

If English is your second language, we recommend you have an IELTS 6.5/ESOL Level 2 or equivalent, but we're happy to review your case on an individual basis.

Course content

The course consists of one module from the CIPD Level 7 Diploma taken as a standalone qualification.

It's fully online and is assessed through one in-person exam. You'll learn to:

  • Review and critically evaluate major contemporary research and debates in the fields of human resource management (HRM) and human resource development (HRD)
  • Evaluate major theories relating to motivation, commitment and engagement at work and how these are put into practice by organisations
  • Debate and critically evaluate the characteristics of effective leadership and the methods used to develop leaders in organisations
  • Contribute to the promotion of flexible working and effective change management in organisations
  • Critically discuss the aims and objectives of the HRM and HRD function in organisations and how these are met in practice
  • Assess the contribution made by HRM and HRD specialists in different types of organisation
  • Promote professionalism and an ethical approach to HRM and HRD practice in organisations

If you'd like to study a broader range of topics and prepare for strategic senior HR roles, we recommend the comprehensive Level 7 Diploma or mid-length Level 7 Certificate.

Qualification

On completion of this course, you'll achieve a CIPD Level 7 Advanced Award in Human Resources, and your certificate from CIPD will reflect this.

The subject you studied will be specified on your attached transcript.

Please note that this Award won't qualify you for CIPD associate membership.

Mark Butcher‘I wanted a company that would be there when I needed them to be, that wouldn’t require me to ‘check-in’ every week as if I was on probation but who would have the necessary expertise to advise me. ICS Learn was the only choice.’
- Mark Butcher

Sarah Watts‘Working full-time and having two young children, it was important that I could work at my own pace. My HR Director encouraged me to take this route rather than do an MA, as she felt CIPD was more about applying the theory in practice.’
- Sarah Watts

Klaudia Czechowicz‘Distance learning gives you the freedom of completing assignments and preparing for exams in your own time. The webinars make you feel part of the community. It is all very exciting and I encourage everyone to continue their studies.’

As a rough guide, Level 3 is for those with no or minimal HR experience. It’s perfect if you’re looking for your first HR role.

Level 5 is for those with some HR experience who are looking for a mid-level HR role. It’s also suitable if you’re new to HR but have a degree and want to begin your learning at a higher level.

Level 7 is for those with significant HR experience or an HR degree who are ready to take on postgraduate-level study. It’ll prepare you for strategic senior HR roles.

However, we know everyone’s situation is different. Our expert CIPD advisors will talk through your experience, education and ambitions to ensure you’re choosing the right course.

Award, Certificate and Diploma indicate the length and scope of your CIPD qualification.

CIPD Awards are bite-sized courses covering one unit from the Diploma. They're useful if you only want to learn about one specific area of HR, such as employment law.

CIPD Certificates are well-rounded mid-length qualifications, covering essential units from the Diploma.

CIPD Diplomas are the most comprehensive and desirable CIPD qualifications, covering everything you need to know to excel in your career. Most students choose the Diploma.

At each CIPD Level, there is a Diploma, a Certificate, and a variety of Awards.

Diplomas and Certificates give you CIPD professional membership; Awards don’t.
