Why is this course right for you?

Learning and development plays a crucial role in formulating and achieving the objectives of organisations, governments, individuals and groups.

You'll develop a deep critical understanding of the potential and limitations of learning and talent development policies and strategies, and cultivate the intellectual, social, professional and personal skills required to excel and lead in L&D and talent-related roles.

Entry requirements

This is an Advanced Level 7 course, so you should have a good level of HR experience and be prepared to undertake postgraduate-level study.

A degree-based educational background would also be beneficial.

If English is your second language, we recommend you have an IELTS 6.5/ESOL Level 2 or equivalent, but we're happy to review your case on an individual basis.

Course content

The course consists of one module from the CIPD Level 7 Diploma taken as a standalone qualification.

Both the course and assessment are fully online. You'll learn to:

  • Critically analyse and evaluate the formulation and implementation of processes of learning and talent development strategies for defining and achieving current and future effectiveness at national, organisational, group and individual levels
  • Critically evaluate the potential and appropriateness of a range of learning and talent development strategies, policies and methods with reference to relevant contextual factors
  • Lead the initiation, development and implementation of learning and talent development strategies, interventions and activities
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with key internal and external partners and stakeholders to diagnose and manage learning and talent development response to problems, and ensure clarity of role and contribution to agreed responses
  • Critically assess the role of and influence the politics of learning/talent development policy and practice in a range of contexts
  • Act ethically and professionally with a demonstrated commitment to equality of opportunity and diversity in learning and talent development and to continuous personal and professional development

If you'd like to study a broader range of topics and prepare for strategic senior HR roles, we recommend the comprehensive Level 7 Diploma or mid-length Level 7 Certificate.

Qualification

On completion of this course, you'll achieve a CIPD Level 7 Advanced Award in Human Resources, and your certificate from CIPD will reflect this.

The subject you studied will be specified on your attached transcript.

Please note that this Award won't qualify you for CIPD associate membership.

Mani Talan‘The course tutor was absolutely wonderful, and every time I emailed him about any question he replied back instantly and arranged a call for me to go through the topics I was unsure of. I believe that was the only reason I managed to complete my first module in just three weeks.’
- Mani Talan

Sarah Watts‘Working full-time and having two young children, it was important that I could work at my own pace. My HR Director encouraged me to take this route rather than do an MA, as she felt CIPD was more about applying the theory in practice.’
- Sarah Watts

Klaudia Czechowicz‘Distance learning gives you the freedom of completing assignments and preparing for exams in your own time. The webinars make you feel part of the community. It is all very exciting and I encourage everyone to continue their studies.’
- Klaudia Czechowicz

As a rough guide, Level 3 is for those with no or minimal HR experience. It’s perfect if you’re looking for your first HR role.

Level 5 is for those with some HR experience who are looking for a mid-level HR role. It’s also suitable if you’re new to HR but have a degree and want to begin your learning at a higher level.

Level 7 is for those with significant HR experience or an HR degree who are ready to take on postgraduate-level study. It’ll prepare you for strategic senior HR roles.

However, we know everyone’s situation is different. Our expert CIPD advisors will talk through your experience, education and ambitions to ensure you’re choosing the right course.

Award, Certificate and Diploma indicate the length and scope of your CIPD qualification.

CIPD Awards are bite-sized courses covering one unit from the Diploma. They're useful if you only want to learn about one specific area of HR, such as employment law.

CIPD Certificates are well-rounded mid-length qualifications, covering essential units from the Diploma.

CIPD Diplomas are the most comprehensive and desirable CIPD qualifications, covering everything you need to know to excel in your career. Most students choose the Diploma.

At each CIPD Level, there is a Diploma, a Certificate, and a variety of Awards.

Diplomas and Certificates give you CIPD professional membership; Awards don’t.

Right away! When you enrol, you’ll be able to log in to your course and get started within an hour.
