Entry requirements

To study this CIPD Intermediate Level 5 course, you should generally have at least one of the following:

  • Some HR experience in an entry-level HR role
  • Managerial experience that involved elements of HR
  • A degree and a desire to begin studying HR at a higher level than Foundation Level 3

If English is your second language, we recommend you have an IELTS 6.5/ESOL Level 2 or equivalent, but we're happy to review your case on an individual basis.

Develop your understanding of what it means to be a successful HR professional, building the personal, interpersonal and collaborative skills you need to excel in your organisation.

You’ll identify your strengths and areas for improvement, building a tailored Personal Development Plan that will act as your roadmap for professional success.

You’ll demonstrate your new skills through a written answer paper that will be marked by your CIPD tutor.


Using Information in HR

Become an evidence-based, data-driven HR practitioner.

You’ll master quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, learning to meaningfully analyse a variety of data types and sources in order to present a persuasive business case.

You’ll demonstrate your new skills through a research proposal that will be marked by your CIPD tutor.


Business Issues and the Contexts of HR

All outstanding HR professionals have a deep understanding of HR’s role within the wider organisation.

You’ll learn how contemporary issues affect organisations, how organisational and HR strategies are developed, and how to respond effectively to changes in your environment so you’re always ahead of the curve.

Managing and Coordinating the HR Function

As a rough guide, Level 3 is for those with no or minimal HR experience. It’s perfect if you’re looking for your first HR role.

Level 5 is for those with some HR experience who are looking for a mid-level HR role. It’s also suitable if you’re new to HR but have a degree and want to begin your learning at a higher level.
