The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is the world’s largest professional body for those involved in the management and development of people.

It has over 150,000 members worldwide, and every year, 25,000 people study CIPD HR and L&D qualifications. They're the gold standard for professional quality in HR and L&D.

This means that CIPD qualifications are highly respected and sought-after by employers. Our HR Employer Survey found that 77.5% of senior HR jobs and 72% of mid-level HR jobs listed CIPD as desirable or essential.§

Where CIPD qualifications aren't a necessity, they'll put you head and shoulders above the competition.

Every learner is different, so you should always talk to an experienced CIPD advisor before choosing your course, but generally, CIPD Level 3 Foundation courses are for those with no or minimal HR experience.

They're perfect if you’re looking for your first HR role as they cover the basics of HR and give you the knowledge you’ll need to shine in an entry-level position. 

As Level 3 has been designed for beginners, you may already have many of the skills that it covers if you’re working in an entry-level HR role. You should only choose to study a Foundation qualification if you feel you need to consolidate your knowledge of basic HR practices.

If you’re currently working in HR and looking to progress your career, you’ll likely be better served by a CIPD Level 5 Intermediate qualification. They're designed for those with some HR experience or a university degree who want to progress to mid-level roles like HR Advisor or Manager.

If you have significant HR experience or an HR degree, a CIPD Level 7 Advanced qualification is right for you. They'll build on your existing experience and prepare you for strategic senior HR roles.

At each CIPD Level, there are three lengths of qualification to choose from.

CIPD Diplomas are the most comprehensive CIPD courses at each level and take the longest to complete. They cover all areas of HR from employment law to talent management, giving you well-rounded generalist and specialist knowledge that will serve you well in a wide variety of roles.

CIPD Certificates consist of selected modules from the full Diploma. They're slightly shorter in length, but still cover the core subjects in detail, and are a great choice if you’re looking to gain essential HR knowledge in less time.

CIPD Award is an individual module from the Diploma studied as a standalone course. They give you in-depth knowledge of a narrow subject area and are ideal if you’d like to specialise in a specific area of HR such as employment law.
