Why study a CIPD Level 3 Foundation Award?

CIPD Level 3 Awards are ideal if you’re just starting out in HR as they don’t require any previous HR experience or knowledge.

As they each focus on one particular aspect of HR, they’re perfect if you want to learn about a specific area of your role, or if you’d like to specialise in an area such as reward management or recruitment.

Plus, if you later choose to complete the full CIPD Level 3 Certificate or Diploma, your Award will count towards your qualification.

CIPD Level 3 Foundation Awards FAQs

As a Level 3 Award covers only one module from the full CIPD Level 3 Diploma, it will only teach you about one small aspect of entry-level HR.

If you’re looking to secure your first HR role, we’d advise you to study a complete CIPD Level 3 Diploma or Certificate. These longer and more comprehensive courses will give you the wide-ranging skills you need to impress employers, make your CV stand out, and launch your HR career.

Diplomas and Certificates also qualify you for CIPD Associate membership, while Awards don’t.

On completion of your course, you'll achieve a CIPD Level 3 Foundation Award in Human Resource Essentials, and your certificate from CIPD will reflect this.

The subject you studied will be specified on your attached transcript, not on your certificate.

A CIPD Diploma is the longest and most comprehensive qualification at each CIPD level.

A CIPD Certificate is slightly shorter and covers selected modules from the Diploma.

A CIPD Award covers one module from the Diploma as a standalone qualification.

CIPD Diplomas and Certificates qualify you for CIPD membership, while Awards don’t.

Yes, if you complete a Level 3 Award and later choose to study a full Level 3 Certificate or Diploma, your Award will count as having completed one module of the course.

A Level 3 Award won’t count towards achieving Level 5 or Level 7 Certificates or Diplomas.
