The Edexcel International GCSE Science qualification is a double award.  This means that it is worth two IGCSEs. The Edexcel IGCSE Science specification includes material from the Biology, Chemistry and Physics IGCSE specifications. Students who are looking to gain a good general knowledge of science will benefit from studying IGCSE Science (Double Award).

The IGCSE Science course combines the study of biology, physics and chemistry to give you a broad-based approach to learning science. The study of science is for you if you want to know how things work, how life develops, what energy is and how it is created.

In the IGCSE Science course you will study the three main pillars of science: biology, chemistry and physics. As you study biology you'll look at the origins of life and the ways in which human biology operates. The development of species and the effect humans have on the environment will also be explored.

In the study of chemistry you'll focus on the Earth, its chemical composition and the ways in which chemical processes can be used to benefit people and advance civilisation.

And as you study physics you'll learn about its laws and processes. You'll study the production and efficient use of energy, and you'll learn about the origin and development of the Universe, discovering how the laws of physics impact on everything that was ever in existence.

Assessment

ICS Learn Test Papers

There are test papers within your study materials which you should complete, however these do not count towards your final exam grade.

External Assessment

Examinations take place every January and June

You will be required to complete three exams for your IGCSE in Science.

  • Biology Paper 1: 4SC0/1B - Written Paper - 2 hour
  • Chemistry Paper 2: 4SC0/1C - Written Paper - 2 hour
  • Physics Paper 3: 4SC0/1P - Written Paper - 2 hour

All three papers will assess the subject area (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) across all Assessment Objectives. The maximum mark for this paper will be 120. The duration of the exam is 2 hours. There will be a range of compulsory short-answer structured questions which are ramped to ensure accessibility for less-able students, as well as to stretch more-able students.
