AAT Foundation

aat-level-2

Association of Accounting Technicians courses are set at three levels:

  1. Foundation
  2. Advanced
  3. Professional

Foundation qualifications are the first level of AAT's accounting and bookkeeping qualifications. These introductory courses are ideal for anyone wishing to start their career in this field, or for those who already work in a junior accounting or bookkeeping role and want to support their practical knowledge and experience with a professional, widely recognised qualification.

They give you a thorough grounding in the basics of accounting and/or bookkeeping, and prepare you to excel in entry-level or support roles within the industry. They also prepare you to move on to Advanced and then Professional level courses.

Who are Foundation courses suitable for?

AAT Foundation courses have no specific entry requirements and are therefore perfect for:

  1. Career changers
  2. People with no or limited accounting/bookkeeping experience
  3. School leavers
  4. Business owners wanting to understand the basics of accounting/bookkeeping
  5. Those working in junior accounting/bookkeeping roles

How difficult are Foundation courses?

Foundation courses sit on the Qualifications and Credit Framework at Level 2, or Level 5 in the Scottish system. This means that they’re roughly equal in difficulty to GCSE grades A-C.

How do I know if this is the right level for me?

If you're not sure if this is the right level for you, give our course advisors a call - they'll run through your experience and education to make sure you take the right course. You can also take the AAT Skillcheck, a short online test with multiple choice questions that will gauge your accounting knowledge and tell you which level will suit you best.

How do I enrol on the course?

Once you've had a look at the course page for the course you're interested in, you can contact our expert AAT advisors by phone, email or webchat to ask any questions you have. They'll be more than happy to talk you through everything you need to know. Once you're ready, you'll enrol over the phone with your course advisor, and set up your preferred payment method.

How can I pay for my course?

We offer all our students the option to get started on their studies with a low deposit. The remainder of your course fees will then be spread over monthly, interest-free instalments.

If your employer has agreed to fund your course, we can invoice the company you work for directly. Simply contact our AAT course advisors for more information.

When can I get started on my course?

There are no set start dates on any of our courses, so you can enrol on a course any day you like and get started studying straight away. You won't be held back by timetables or cohorts - you can complete the course entirely at your own pace.
