AAT courses are set at three levels:
The AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting is the highest level qualification offered by the Association of Accounting Technicians. The Professional qualification is essential for anyone wishing to become a financial team leader or set up their own accounting practice.
Upon completion of this high level, you'll automatically become an AAT affiliate member, and you'll have the opportunity to become a professional member of AAT (MAAT) once you've gained the requisite work experience. This will allow you to use the designatory letters MAAT after your name on your CV, emails, and business cards, demonstrating your high professional standards to employers and business partners.
You'll also be able to enter one of the many Chartered Accountant fast track programmes which are available to AAT graduates.
The highest level Bookkeeping qualification offered by AAT is Advanced; there is no AAT Professional Bookkeeping qualification.
*Based on 1,280 exam sittings and 1,215 passes by ICS Learn AAT students between July 2015 and June 2016.
This qualification has the highest entry requirements of any AAT course; this makes it suitable for:
The Professional course sits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework at Level 4, or Level 8 in the Scottish system. This means that it's roughly equal in difficulty to a foundation degree, an HND, an HNC, or an NVQ 4/5.
If you have some accounting experience and you're not certain which level is best for you to start at, take the AAT Skillcheck, a 30-minute multiple choice test that will determine which level best suits your existing knowledge.
Then, give our course advisors a call - they'll run through your professional experience, education and ambitions to ensure you’re making the right choice.
