ICS Learn Case Study: Farnborough College of Technology | Online CIPD Courses

Tamzyn Jenkins joined her organisation with no HR experience. Through studying CIPD Level 3 and CIPD 5 Diplomas in HR, she has been able to contribute more in her role.

I never thought I would get into HR, but here I am! I am currently studying my Level 5 CIPD Diploma in Human Resource Management with ICS Learn and previously studied my Level 3 CIPD Diploma in Human Resources Practice which I completed in July 2017.

I have always loved animals, which is why firstly, I wanted to open my own dog walking/training business and why I studied Animal Management at Merrist Wood College after studying BTEC Level 3 Business (which included a unit in HR).

However, after completing various work experience days, mainly with a dog walker, I realised that this is not what I wanted to do. I then looked back at the BTEC Business course I studied and came across the Human Resources unit, which I then realised this is what I wanted to try and get into.

After putting my CV on various recruitment websites, an agency contacted me stating there was an HR Administrator job available that they thought would suit me perfectly. This was for a care organisation.

The interview went well and unfortunately, I didn’t get the role, however since they were short staffed and really loved my personality, they gave me a chance and they did create another HR role for me.

I was very lucky since I didn’t have any HR experience or even office experience.

I then started studying my CIPD Level 3 Diploma in Human Resources Practice which helped me and I’m using the skills and knowledge in my current role.

ICS Learn have been excellent, especially the tutors. They are always there via email or via a telephone chat and are there to answer any questions you have about the assignments.

Distance learning was the best way for me, especially since I’m working full time and this course has really improved my knowledge as well as my skills in HR.

Studying online has been easier that I thought since even though you have a specific time period to complete the course, you can do this in your own time.

I have found the Resourcing and Talent Planning unit very useful, especially whilst studying my Level 3 Diploma.

I have since attended a workshop on interviewing and I have used these skills whilst interviewing in my current role, such as the kind of body language the candidate is showing.

This course will highly benefit the current organisation I’m working for since it helps us keep up to date with changes in policies and procedures and what we can and can’t do as an organisation like the legal requirements we must meet.

I would highly recommend ICS Learn since again as the tutors are always there to help, and distance learning is very useful when you have a full-time job.
