AAT Student Stories: April Cullen | AAT Level 2 Review

April wanted to broaden her knowledge of Bookkeeping after developing a particular interest in it through her administration role. That's when she decided to take on an AAT Foundation Certificate online with us!

My current job role is administration assistant at a company that manufactures and installed ventilation, Professional Ventilation Services.

Since being there I have taken over the bookkeeping and other general accounts work using the Sage 50 accounting system. We have an outsourced accountant come every quarter and year-end to look through the accounts and submit VAT returns.

I was really intrigued at what the final stages of account preparation were, so I asked if I could do some extra management accounts to make her life easier.

As each quarter came and went, I took on more tasks and really enjoyed going more into depth with the company accounts and understanding how they work. It was the outsourced accountant that advised I should do the course as she had faith I would easily pass it.

I was skeptical of distance learning in case it would be harder to grasp the learning material and not having some direct help to ask for advice when I didn’t understand something, but another great thing ICS Learn has is tutor support which I have found very helpful.

Any questions I have I can send a message over to my tutor and she gets back to me quickly, nothing is too much trouble and she goes through every detail.

I am now due to sit my last exam and with the looks of my previous exam results for this course I will get be getting a distinction.

I’m so happy I chose to take the plunge when I did. Upon finishing the course I will have a lot more job opportunities to work within accounting and I’m excited to move on to the next level.
