AAT Student Stories: Maria Vasconcelos | AAT Level 3 Review

For Maria, studying an AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting was all part of her 5 year plan to become an accountant.

Hi, I’m Maria, I’m 29 years old and I come from Portugal.

I’ve always been the kind of person who loves numbers and everything related to running a business.

My heroes growing up were always people who have come from nothing and made their way up the food chain.

I loved how they seemed to do it effortlessly and wanted to do the same. Only studying them I realised that for that to happen I had to become a master of all trades regarding anything to do with running a business, and becoming an expert in all accounting subjects was one of the persistent moves.

The thing is that I’ve never wanted to become an accountant. Back at uni, it was one of the subjects I disliked the most. But soon I came to realise that was so only because I disliked my teachers and their teaching methods.

I came to the UK in the middle of Covid-19 searching for better opportunities to grow and accomplish my 5 year plan. I left a permanent position back in Portugal, which I held for almost 5 years and never looked back.

I decided to take the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting primarily through necessity, once I one day want to create my own company.

Little did I know it would be something I would really love doing. Now I want to become an accountant more than everything.

The online course is amazing. It allows me to work full time and study at the same time at my own pace.

It has so many exercises and mock tests for me to practice, and they are very similar to the exams.

I am very happy with my choice and think it is the best decision I have ever made.

I hope to inspire every person who wants to become an accountant or are unsure of what they want to do in life but love working with numbers like me.
