CIPD Student Stories: Jen
Jen is studying a CIPD Level 7 course, as she recently discovered a passion for people management. She has found flexible learning to be perfect for her.
After completing my degree in International Business, I decided to pursue a career in HR. I found a real passion for wanting to get the best from people in the organisation in order to contribute to business success and effectiveness.
With the move of HR towards a more strategic role in businesses, it is an exciting time to be part of this forward-thinking and influential function.
To support my development and push forward my HR career, I decided to undertake the Level 7 CIPD qualification with ICS Learn.
This is the first time that I have engaged with distance learning and I can honestly say that I have been very satisfied with my experience of it – the increased level of flexibility that it provides really suits my busy lifestyle, especially as I’m complete the qualification part-time alongside my work and other commitments.
In this way, there are some weekends where I can really dedicate myself and push through the context, however where other priorities need to take precedence, it has meant that I can take a couple of days away from the content until things settle down.
This is typical of life’s ups and downs and being able to determine my own work pattern has really benefited my levels of motivation, engagement and wellbeing.
Something which was advantageous for me at University were the group discussions that took place during lectures or workshops.
When deciding whether to choose distance learning which inevitably takes away the face-to-face element of learning, I was apprehensive to understand how this would impact my learning and comprehension of the material.
However, I have been overwhelmed with the level of support that is available from the tutors and other students alike.
Whenever I have come across a difficult concept which I’m struggling to get my head around, or where I am looking for some additional content to expand my understanding, I have reached out directly to the relevant tutor.
I have been very satisfied with the timeliness of their response and the level of detail they have provided to help me in my studies.
All of the tutors I have had an experience with are highly knowledgeable and experts in their field. I feel confident that I am receiving teaching from the best in the industry.
Alternatively, there have been times when I have used the online forums to share my questions. These are useful platforms to hear thoughts from other students which has really helped to bridge the gap between distance learning and group discussions.
I would recommend studying with ICS Learn to anyone who has passion, dedication and determination to complete a qualification to help you prosper in your career.
