ICS Real Stories: Kayleigh | CIPD Level 5 Review
To aid her development and awareness of ethics in her role as an HR advisor at Audit Scotland, Kayleigh undertook our CIPD Level 5 Diploma.
I am currently studying the CIPD Level 5 Diploma in Human Resources Management, whilst working full-time as a HR advisor at Audit Scotland.
Audit Scotland are essentially the ‘public spending watchdog’, keeping a close eye on how other public bodies spend their money. This makes it incredibly important that all employees, including myself, act with integrity as we set the standard for other Scottish public bodies.
This was part of the reason I decided to start studying for my CIPD qualification, as I wanted to make sure I had the best possible knowledge and understanding of HR to deliver the best possible service in my role.
It is also really important to me as an individual to continuously develop myself, I enjoy a challenge and getting my teeth into a piece of work!
I chose to study with ICS Learn as flexibility in my course was important to me.
I am really busy both at work and outside of work and would have struggled with regular classes.
I liked having the option to study at my own pace, and I had heard about ICS Learn through other colleagues who had a great experience.
I was also looking for a cost-effective option, and I found that ICS Learn was good value for money.
Although I was really looking for flexibility in my learning, I have never done distance learning before and I am very much a people-person (what HR person isn’t!) so I was worried about the lack of face to face contact.
However, I should not have been worried about this whatsoever as there are plenty of platforms for ICS Learn students to connect with each other and also with the tutors.
You can post on forums and have interactive discussions on webinars.
I have also found that the tutors are really accommodating and will answer messages speedily, or alternatively they are happy to have a chat on the phone.
At this point in time, I am exactly halfway through my course, so I am planning to study hard over the next few months.
I want to be CIPD qualified by the end of the year so that I can hopefully be promoted in my work place and can finally have those long-awaited letters at the end of my name!
Looking forward, I aspire to develop my career within the Scottish public sector and would like to consider studying my CIPD Level 7 once I am further in my career.
For anyone considering ICS Learn as a study provider, I would strongly recommend it.
When I was considering the course, the ICS Learn representative was incredibly helpful and answered all of my questions and didn’t feel ‘pushy’ at all.
Studying with ICS Learn is great for students in all walks of life, especially if you require a bit more flexibility so you can still enjoy your professional and social life whilst also gaining an excellent qualification!
