ICS Real Stories: Toni | Online GCSE English & Maths Review
After resitting her GCSE Maths and English online with us, Toni has been able to get a place on her dream MSc nursing course!
My name is Toni Warden and this October at 36 years old, I’ll become the first member of my family to start a university degree.
After a happy 14 years working as a day carer and nanny, I decided that my abilities could be further challenged in a more professional role as a children’s nurse.
I left school with no ‘useful’ GCSE’s so I needed to re-take Maths and English Language to meet the requirements to begin an Access to Health Studies course.
After much research, I discovered ICS Learn and decided they were exactly what I needed and embarked on my first online distance course.
Whilst communicating with a member of the ICS team, we worked out that I would need to spend roughly 10hrs per week studying as I was beginning the course in late February.
This was sometime later than recommended to get through the course work and sit my GCSE exam that coming summer.
The ICS Learn website was easy to navigate. My tutor responded quickly to any questions I had, and on-going advice and materials were provided at every stage to help improve my marks and confidence along the way.
With all of the practice papers I was given and hard work and time I spent revising, I felt well prepared when it came time to sit my exam.
After obtaining a grade D in high school 20 years ago to the day, you can imagine my shock and amazement to open up an email stating that this summer, I had achieved a GRADE A*! (now grades 8/9)
With the help of the team at ICS Learn and a great deal of effort and determination on my part, I have achieved something I never thought possible.
After completing my access course, I am now about to begin an MSc in Nursing with Leadership programme, where I will finish with dual registration in Mental health and child nursing. This is one of the proudest moments of my life!
