ICS Real Stories: Sharon | Online GCSE Maths Review
Sharon wanted to go back to university to become a teacher. Eager to take the next step in her career, she studied GCSE Maths with us.
At 32 years of age, not having a GCSE in Maths has really held me back. I really regret not re-sitting it at school when I had the chance.
There's been so many courses I've wanted to enrol on, but not having a C or above in Maths has meant I've not been able to do them.
Having worked as a Primary School LSA for the last 5 years, I wanted to take the next step for me, and teach. But without a GCSE in Maths, it wouldn't be possible.
Being a busy, working mother of 3 children (the youngest being 7 months) I found it very hard to find an education centre to work around my family life.
So, I spoke to my local university who recommended several online learning centres to me. ICS Learn being one of them.
I spoke to several of the recommended companies, but I chose ICS Learn above the other options, purely because of the person I spoke to via live chat. I wish I could remember his name to give him the recognition!
He was so friendly, so informative and so helpful. He 'spoke' with me for a good half an hour, answering my many, many questions and offering me extra support to come to a decision.
I was dubious I would be wasting money on something I wouldn't realistically, have time to study around 3 young children.
He offered to call me at a pre-arranged time, and talk through any remaining questions I had, and reassured me that it really is a case of studying when I can. Not pressuring myself too much.
I felt so at ease, and because of the customer service I had already received, I felt ICS Learn was definitely right for me. I wasn't disappointed.
The website itself is so easy to navigate, absolutely full of relevant information, and my tutor was efficient in responding to any difficulties I was having to understand some of the mathematical concepts.
I could work through each unit one by one, and was provided with GCSE e-books to download, which proved helpful.
I had decided to take the foundation Math papers and I can honestly say, without the way that ICS Lean allowed me to study and without their clear and concise way of explaining mathematical terms, I wouldn't have stood a chance.
This morning, I found I'd received a level 4 - equivalent to a C. So, I passed! I can't express enough my gratitude.
I plan to now go to university next year, to learn how to teach. But in the meantime, I'm going straight back onto the ICS Learn website to look for my next course to study.
I'm so thrilled. Studying this has also helped me learn how I will need to support my 11-year-old when he goes up secondary school.
So, I'll be keeping all of the notes I made and using ICS Learn to help me to teach my son to get to grips with maths and GCSE level. That's something special. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
