Our student Anna Thorn needed GCSE Maths to peruse her dream of becoming a teacher. She reviews her experience of studying online to make her dream a reality.
I applied to do GCSE Mathematics as I was applying for a PGDE in Primary Education. I needed a stronger maths grade to meet the requirements set by the teaching council.
I was very apprehensive as I knew Maths was never my strong point at school, but knew if I applied myself I would, hopefully, get the required grade 6.
I found the course being broken down into clear grades and topics extremely helpful, along with the tests at the end of each module before I moved onto the next level of work.
This not only kept me on track, but was great for seeing what level of the exam I should sit.
By following the online live video lessons, I was able to stay on track.
As the lessons are recorded, it was great as I could watch them in my free time, pausing and having a go before answers were worked through on the videos, this was perfect for me while working full time.
The course was not easy though, it takes a lot of time and commitment to see it through.
With GCSE Mathematics being a new grading system (1-9) I was anxious the resources would be limited as it was a completely new exam, but I found an amass of past papers and example papers to revise with was provided by ICS Learn.
There were marking schemes and past papers with the working done by the tutors to make it clear what was expected on the exams. I found my personal tutor was great for any additional help with any concerns I had.
I think it could be easy to get side-tracked by other distractions, so I’d recommend setting out a revision timetable and an area where you can study in peace to help achieve your goal.
Overall, I am extremely happy I chose ICS Learn as I have surpassed my goal grade, achieving an 8, and I’m hopeful for the future of becoming a Primary School Teacher.
