From Food Retail Manager to HR Officer - Here's Kate's CIPD story
Name: Kate Morris
I worked as a manager in Food Retail for 8 years, but over time gained a real interest and passion for Human Resources, and really wanted to make the move into a dedicated HR role.
With commitments and responsibilities, I was looking for a flexible way of studying and decided that distance learning was perfect for me. It allowed me to continue to work full time while studying with the benefit of access to a tutor and student services support as and when required - the best of both worlds!
I've always worked 40+ hours per week. However, I still managed to balance studying the CIPD Level 3 Diploma this year with buying a new house, moving in, settling into my first HR role.
All my hard work has paid off because four months later, I got my first promotion into an HR Officer role!
I would never have gained the knowledge or confidence in my abilities if it wasn't for the flexibility of studying my CIPD Level 3 Foundation course with ICS Learn and being able to study in my own time.
If I had to give new students any advice, it would be to make the most of their tutors. The tutor calls are fantastic! It's great to know that even if a piece of submitted work doesn't pass the first time, there is someone there to help and guide you, and usually the work only needs a bit of advice and minor tweaking.
It's great to know that despite studying pretty solo most of the time, there is someone there that you can rely on for support and advice.
