What does a HR consultant do? 

HR consulting is a kind of management consulting. It is the HR consultant’s role to ensure that their clients are properly advised on HR best practice and to help them deal effectively with difficult situations and consciously grow their business by attracting the right people. The HR consultant’s role includes tasks such as:

  • Looking at internal HR practices, procedures and guidelines
  • Making sure company policies are implemented throughout the business
  • Making recommendations as to how HR practices and operations can be improved
  • Assisting with recruitment and retention of employees
  • Giving guidance on salary or other issues with remuneration
  • Assisting with legal matters, including dismissals and disciplinary matters
  • Keeping clients up to date with legislation and employment practice developments

How do I begin a career as a HR consultant?

Although you do not require a degree to become a HR consultant, it is incredibly valuable for employers and your own development to have industry specific qualifications. There are a number of qualifications that will kick-start your career in Human Resources, but none so valuable as CIPD qualifications.

CIPD Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Human Resource Practice

If you are looking to begin your career in Human Resources, the CIPD Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Human Resource Practice is an excellent qualification to have. This course will give you an overview of the fundamental issues and principles in all areas of HR. You will learn the required practical skills and professional standard expected in the HR working environment and will gain a contextual understanding of HR as it applies to business. This course will prepare you for working in HR, and upon completing your CIPD Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Human Resource Practice you will have the required skills to become a:

  1. Human Resources Administrator
  2. Human Resources Assistant

 

CIPD Advanced Diploma: HR Management

If you have already completed a Human Resources course, or have prior knowledge or experience in HR, the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management will allow you to build on your existing knowledge of Human Resources management, and further advance your career in HR. This course gives you a complete understanding on the parameters within which HR managers, practitioners and consultants operate. You will become more familiar with up-to-date research and development in Human Resources, which will help you to become a more effective HR manager or practitioner. This course in HR management will also allow you to take a closer look at talent management and resourcing, as well as enabling you to study employment law and means of managing employment relationships.
