• Introduction to Motorcycle Repair

Examine the different types of motorcycles and consider the uses and advantages of each. Explore the various hand, power and specialised tools you’ll use when working with motorcycles.

• Motorcycle Engines

Examine the major components of both two-stroke and four-stroke engines, and study the different configurations of these engines. Inspect both top-end and lower-end two-and four-stroke engines.

• Lubrication, Cooling and Fuel Systems

Examine the different types of lubrication systems used in both two- and four-stroke motorcycle engines. Study the components of motorcycle cooling systems. Explore various fuel delivery systems.

• Clutches, Transmissions and Drives

Explore the different components that make up primary drive systems, the different clutch types, the different clutch release mechanisms, the different types of transmissions, and the different types of final drive systems.

• Electrical Fundamentals and Ignition Systems

Study electrical fundamentals. Explore DC circuits and ignition systems.

• Charging Systems

Explore the theory behind charging systems. Examine the electrical system of motorcycles that don’t use a battery. Learn how to maintain and troubleshoot a charging system.

• Frames, Steering and Suspension

Examine different frame designs and discover how to perform frame and wheel inspection and alignment procedures. Learn how to perform service procedures on front-fork components and rear-suspension components.

• Brakes, Wheel Assemblies and Tyres

Examine the components of brake systems and learn how to maintain them. Discover how to repair motorcycle spoke wheels and how to perform maintenance on wheel assemblies.

• Motorcycle Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Examine emission-control systems. Learn how to perform various maintenance procedures. Discover how to systematically approach motorcycle problems and how to troubleshoot all types of problems.

You must register with IMI.  ICS will register you on your behalf, but you should note that IMI registration fees are additional to course fees.

Outline

You’ll complete seven assessments during your course. It is simple and easy to complete these assessments online via the ICS Student Community. When you complete an assessment online, it is marked instantly, meaning that you receive your result straightaway. This allows you to progress through your course without delay. It is, however, also possible to handwrite your answers and post these to ICS.

Notes

Each multiple choice question comes with four potential answers. Only one of these answers is correct; the other three are wrong. You must identify the correct answer.
