Pre-requisites

Qualification

CIPD Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Personnel and Development (Leadership and Management), when you also complete the Applied Personnel and Development field.

• The Practice of Management (1)
  • Examine manager styles, as well as the individual and organisational constraints which impact on the style which is ultimately adopted. Study the role of the manager.
• The Practice of Management (2)
  • Consider the environment in which managers operate and the infrastructure which exists to support the role. Study the process of communication, including barriers to effective communication, and interpersonal skills. Explore the role of the manager in relation to health and safety at work.
• Delivering Change
  • Consider the nature of change and reasons why it occurs. Examine how change can best be managed, and consider its main barriers as well as methods of overcoming resistance. Examine corporate culture – how it is shaped; how it manifests itself; its impact on organisational initiatives; and how it can be reinforced.
• Enhancing Customer Relations
  • Examine the importance of creating a customer-centric culture, and the need to manage customer relationships.
• Enabling Continuous Improvement
  • Examine the need to continuously improve service, and how CI (Continuous Improvement) has a bearing on the decision-making and resource allocation aspects of the manager’s role.

b) Managing in a Strategic Business Context

• The Business Environment
  • Consider some of the economic factors which form part of the competitive environment within which organisations operate. Examine how the rapid development of new technology impacts on people, processes and the provision of goods and services.
• Demographic and Social Trends
  • Examine statistics relating to the population of the UK, as well as some international statistics, and consider how social trends can affect these statistics. Consider the likely effects that social trends will have on both customers and employees.
• Globalisation and Regulation
  • Consider the impact of globalisation on organisations, and examine global markets and global trade. Study legislation and regulation, as well as their enforcement through the courts and regulatory bodies.
• Government Policy, Social Responsibility and Ethics
  • Consider the role of the government and why government intervention is necessary. Examine the impact of economic, social and education policy on organisations.
• Developing Strategy
  • Examine the different approaches to strategy making, as well as the tools and techniques that are used in the process of devising a strategy.

c) Managing and Leading People

• The Framework of Organisations
  • Examine the external factors that can cause an organisation to change. Study the factors that inhibit high performance and how these can be addressed.

  • Examine the recruitment of employees, employee development, and how managers can review and reward the performance of employees.

d) Managing Information for Competitive Advantage

• Managing Information
  • You will study the following topics: Organisational Systems and Processes; Information Systems; Systems Design and Database Concepts.

Technical requirements

Exemption applies if you already hold an MBA and is determined by CIPD directly. CIPD membership, exam and workshop fees are additional to course fees.

Outline

For each of the four modules you will complete three formative assessments, one assignment and one exam. This means that, in total, you will complete twelve formative assessments, four assignments and four exams. You’ll also attend two 3-day residential workshops.

The formative assessments and assignments can be submitted to ICS online via the Student Community, or they can be posted to ICS. It is recommended that you submit your assessments and assignments online as you will receive your results more quickly this way.

Managing for Results

• Formative Assessments 1-3: 2 questions (of a choice of 4) in Section A and 7 questions (of a choice of 10) in Section B (per formative assessment)
• Assignment 1: the assignment should be around 2000 words and you will have a choice of 2 topics
• Exam 1: 2 questions (of a choice of 4) in Section A and 7 questions (of a choice of 10) in Section B. This exam must be completed within 2 hours.

Managing in a Strategic Business Context

• Formative Assessments 4-6: 2 questions in Section A and 7 questions (of a choice of 10) in Section B (per formative assessment)
• Assignment 2: the assignment should be around 2000 words and you will have a choice of 2 topics
• Exam 2: 2 questions in Section A and 7 questions (of a choice of 10) in Section B. This exam must be completed within 2 hours.

Managing and Leading People

Notes

The workshops will take place in a central UK location.

The exam is held in May and November of each year.
