Unemployment fall could mean jobs for those on IT courses
21 Jan 2010
People taking IT courses could find a more welcoming market as unemployment falls.
The December unemployment and youth joblessness figures indicate a drop in both sectors, meaning those graduating from distance learning programmes such as IT courses could find a favourable atmosphere.
According to data from the Office for National Statistics, the International Labour Organisation measure of unemployment shows a 7,000 drop, with the claimant count and the youth claimant count down 15,000 and 7,600 respectively.
The Government''s Department for Work and Pensions said the unemployment level is 450,000 below what was predicted at the time of the Budget thanks to £5 billion extra investment in education, training and helping people back to work.
Commenting on the statistics, secretary of state for work and pensions Yvette Cooper said the funds poured into job creation, education and training are "making a real difference".
She explained that they are "helping people through the recession and preventing the kind of unemployment [seen] in the eighties and nineties."
People wishing to improve the chances of getting hired can undertake IT courses and other programmes through distance learning from ICSlearn.
