Majority of employers to hire degree course takers
25 Jan 2010
The Recruitment and Employment Federation has revealed that the majority of employers plan to hire.
Students about to graduate from distance degree courses will be glad to hear that the majority of employers are not planning any more job cuts, according to the Recruitment and Employment Federation (REC).
The organisation''s January JobsOutlook revealed that 94 per cent of employers do not plan to reduce staff, with one in five instead expecting to expand permanent staff in the coming year.
While 75 per cent of those polled expect to see their head count remaining the same for the time being, one in ten companies plan to hire staff in the next three months, the survey showed.
"This is positive news for job-seekers and confirms the stabilisation of the labour market and which over time will result in better jobs figures," explained Roger Tweedy, the REC''s director of research.
"The road to full employment will be slow but the trend of increasing employer confidence and a return to hiring is now established."
According to employment figures from the Office for National Statics, the number of people out of work fell by 7,000 in the three months to November 2009, bringing the total to 2.46 million.
