FMB calls could benefit those on trade and construction courses

03 Feb 2010

More support for the building industry could create jobs for people undertaking trade and construction courses.

The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has made recommendations that could result in more employment opportunities in the near future for those taking trade and construction courses.

More needs to be done to support the construction sector in order for the country to go back into full scale economic recovery and to prevent it from lagging behind other European nations, the organisation urged.

FMB director general Richard Diment warned that the building industry is still in recession despite the UK''s exit from the downturn, saying only 18 per cent of member firms expect their workloads to increase.

"The Government must do all it can to help our beleaguered building industry," he urged.

"Investment in the construction sector really does offer the best hope of propelling this country back into recovery because every £1 spent on construction output generates a total of £2.84 in total economic activity."

Trade and construction courses are among professional and vocational qualifications available through distance learning from ICSlearn.
