Apprenticeship scheme to benefit trade and construction course students

02 Feb 2010

People taking trade and construction courses are set to enjoy more apprenticeship opportunities.

Trade and construction course-takers are set to benefit from increased opportunities thanks to the government''s efforts to encourage major UK employers to take young jobseekers in.

National Apprenticeship Week was launched by the government yesterday (February 1st) in a bid to recognise the commitment of employers to create work opportunities.

The week is also aimed at encouraging people to look at the benefits to their skills and career of becoming an apprentice as employers prepare to hire thousands in 2010.

Companies can also earn a £2,500 grant for each 16 or 17-year-old apprentice they take on through the new Apprentice Grant for Employers scheme being promoted by the government.

Business minister Pat McFadden Pat McFadden said: "For so many businesses to be planning to recruit in 2010 is good news for the whole economy.

"It shows employers increasingly recognise the benefits they get from hiring apprentices."

Meanwhile, people can increase their appeal to potential employers by undertaking distance learning programmes such as trade and construction courses.
