GCSE English Course Outline
You’ll complete four test papers assessments, four coursework assignments and an oral assignment during your GCSE English course. You’ll also sit two exams on completion of your course.
Test papers are intended to help both you and your tutor measure your progress through the course, highlighting any areas where revision is necessary. Test papers do not, however, count towards your final grade.
Assessment Breakdown
- Test Papers 1-4
- Coursework: your coursework makes up 40% of your overall grade, and is divided as follows: speaking and listening (20%), reading (10%), writing (10%)
- Exam 1: this exam is worth 30% of your overall grade and should be completed within 1 hour and 40 minutes
- Exam 2: this exam is worth 30% of your overall grade and should be completed within 1 hour and 30 minutes
Notes
In order to complete the speaking component of your coursework, you will be required to record yourself speaking. The recorded material will be sent to your tutor for assessment.
Exams for your GCSE English Language course are held in June of each year. Please note that exam fees are additional to your course fees.
