Examination Fee

Students will have to pay an examination fee of £21.80. This is payable to the AQA Examination Board.

Please note students are responsible for making their own exam arrangements.

GCSE English Literature Course Outline

You’ll complete seven formative assessments and three coursework assignments during your course, and an exam on completion of your course.

Assessment Breakdown

• Formative Assessments 1-4
• Coursework Assignments 1-3: your 3 pieces of coursework together make up 30% of your overall grade. One piece of coursework will be on a play, one on a poem, and one on a novel. Two pieces of coursework must consist of written assignments, but one piece of coursework may be delivered orally. However, even oral coursework must be accompanied by written evidence.
• Exam: this exam is worth 70% of your overall grade and should be completed within 2 hours and 15 minutes. You will be asked questions on set texts, which may be taken into the exam. However, your texts must not be annotated.

Notes

Formative assessments are intended to help both you and your tutor measure your progress through the course, highlighting any areas where revision is necessary. Formative assessments do not, however, count towards your final grade.

If you choose to complete a piece of oral coursework, you will be required to record yourself speaking. The recorded material will be sent to your tutor for assessment.

The exam is held in June of each year. Please note that the exam fee is additional to your course fees.
