ILA Scotland

ILA Scotland is a Scottish Government scheme that helps students pay for learning. It's for people who have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or who are on benefits.

If you are 16 or over and living in Scotland, you could get up to £200 towards the cost of an ICS course with a learner account from ILA Scotland.

Who Can Apply?

ILA Scotland is available to people who have an income of £22,000 a year or less and are age 16 or over.

To apply you must be:

  • a British citizen
  • a national of a member state of the European Economic Area who has utilised their 'right of residence'
  • settled within the United Kingdom within the meaning of section 33(2A) of the Immigration Act 1971
  • ordinarily resident in Scotland

Asylum Seekers

If you have any restrictions on taking up employment or seeking benefits in the UK, then you may not be eligible to make an application.  If you are not sure, you should supply a photocopy of your most recent Home Office documentation (or stamp on your passport), confirming your status to remain in the UK, along with your application.

Forces personnel are treated as being resident at the establishment where they are based.  If you are ordinarily resident in Scotland but are serving overseas, you would be eligible.

Basic eligibility questions are asked when you contact the ILA Scotland helpline.

Applying for Funding

The easiest way for students to apply for funding is to request an application pack online from the ILA Scotland website:

http://www.ilascotland.org.uk/

Once completed, you will need to return the application form to ILA Scotland so that they can complete the full eligibility check and process the application.

Students must make sure that they have applied for a learner account and that they have received their account number before booking a course. They cannot use their funds to pay for a course that they have already booked.

If you experience any problems, please call the ILA Scotland helpline free on 0808 100 1090 and speak to one of their advisers.

The £200 Account

If you open a £200 account then once the account has been set up, ILA Scotland will send you a Welcome Pack to tell you more about how to use your account.

Remember, before booking a course, you must have received your ILA Scotland account number which will be in the Welcome Pack.
