Degrees

Degrees are a range of qualifications issued by institutions of higher education as the result of completing a program of study. ICS, in association with the University of East London and Napier University, offer a highly flexible way to gain this very sought-after qualification.

More than just a Degree!

Having a degree is about more than reaching a high level of education in a particular subject.  It’s also about developing valuable skills that you can apply in a wide variety of different areas – so as well as opening doors in Law, Psychology, Business and Health & Social Care, a degree qualification from ICS could lead to any number of career opportunities. The degree you receive with ICS will be exactly the same qualification as it would be, if you had attended everyday at these institutions. With ICS you can achieve all this from the comfort of your own home.

Same qualification. More flexibility.

With ICS you can study for the standard first degree as provided by the Universities of England and Wales. The Bachelors degree with honours (e.g. BA (Hons) for arts subjects, BEng (Hons) for engineering and BSc (Hons) for science) usually takes three years' full-time study if being completed via classroom-based tuition. With ICS you will complete your degree in as much time as you like. You can complete it in a shorter time if you are committed enough to put in the effort.

Grades

Honours degrees are usually categorised by one of four grades:

  • First class honours (1)
  • Second class honours, divided into:
    • Division one, or upper second (2:1 or 2:I)
    • Division two, or lower second (2:2 or 2:II)
  • Third class honours (3)

Students who do not achieve the standard for the award of honours may be given a pass degree that is without honours.

The Graduateship (post-nominal GCGI) awarded by the City & Guilds of London Institute is mapped to a British Honours degree.

A Foundation degree can be awarded for having completed two years of study in what is usually a vocational discipline. The Foundation degree is comparable to an associate's degree in the United States, and can be awarded by a University, or College of Higher Education.

Postgraduate Qualifications

At the moment, ICS do not offer postgraduate qualifications. Should you wish to undertake a Master’s Degree, and you have already undertaken a period of specialised education, please contact our partner universities and they will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take.

Professional Diplomas

Recently, there has been a significant rise in the number of Professional Diplomas, often in very specific, vocationally-related subjects. The popularity of these courses is, in part, due to the demand for senior employees to demonstrate managerial competence and industry skills and know-how. Visit out range of Professional Qualifications and see whether you would prefer to undertake a course leading to a related career.
