The Crime and Social History module is part of the distance learning BA (Hons) Psychology Studies and Criminology course.

The home study BA (Hons) Psychology Studies and Criminology course allows you to study for a psychology and criminology degree through convenient and cost-effective distance learning. The course is structured in small, manageable modules, and to gain an honours degree you need to complete all modules.

The Crime and Social History module looks at criminology in the wider context of social history. By looking at how society's views on crime have been shaped by philosophical and social ideas and economic and political forces, you'll gain a deeper understanding of crime and the criminal justice system.

In addition to forming part of the home study BA (Hons) Psychology Studies and Criminology course, the Crime and Social History module is also available to study on a standalone basis as part of your personal development.

Crime and Social History 

In this module, you'll come to understand the benefits of thinking of crime in the context of social history. Drawing on the disciplines of philosophy, social theory, and cultural studies, in addition to criminology, you'll look in particular at the emergence and growth of the modern 'crimino-legal complex'. You'll see how our understanding of crime is connected to changes in philosophical and social ideas, and economic and political forces.

Assessment

There are a number of assessments that you complete as part of your coursework and forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.

You'll also take a summative assessment at the end of your module. Exam venues are located across the UK and exams take place twice a year. Please note that there are additional assessment fees for each module.
