Cognitive Psychology & Psychobiology

Covering fascinating, broad ranging subjects such as face processing, perception and psycholinguistics, this module aims to extend your knowledge and understanding of many different areas influencing human interaction.  So, you’ll consider everything from sex differences in the brain; biology of psychiatric disorders to neurophysiology of sleep-waking cycles.

What does the module cover?

Gain an understanding of the core principles, facts and critical issues (theory and empirical work) in each of the key topics you’ll cover.  Develop your critical thinking of theories in this area and learn to analyse and evaluate experimental findings.  You’ll soon become familiar with novel, cutting edge techniques and methods used in cognitive and psychobiological sciences.  Finally you’ll gain skills for life with the opportunity to write critically about the real world applications of cognitive theories and experimental findings.

Assessment

You’ll be required to sit two 120-minute exams that will each count towards 50% your final grade.

Exam 1 is on Cognitive Psychology.  You’ll need to answer two questions:  one from Section A, Perception Learning and Memory, and one question from Section B Thinking and Language.  Also for Exam 2 on Psychobiology you’ll need to answer two questions.
