What are the principles that underpin the concept of criminal liability?  As well as covering essential concepts such as actus reus, mens rea and burden of proof, this module introduces you to the major criminal offences.

What does the module cover?

Understand the essential concepts of criminal liability and learn what the law says relating to criminal liability.  Critically evaluate criminal law in its social and political context.  Discuss the interpretation of criminal law and consider potential reforms.  Apply criminal law to complex hypothetical problem situations.

Assessment

You’ll complete a coursework assignment of around 1200 words and worth 30% of your grade, and an unseen examination lasting 2 hours and worth 70% of your grade.  Exam venues are located across the UK and exams take place twice a year.  Please note that there are additional assessment fees for each module.
