The Law and Society module is part of the distance learning BA (Hons) Business Management and Law course.

The distance learning BA (Hons) Business Management and Law course allows you to study for a business and law degree through convenient and cost-effective home study. The course is structured in small, manageable modules, to gain an honours degree you need to complete the necessary modules to gain 360 credits.

The Law and Society module examines the relationship between the legal system and the society that shapes it and lives under it. Looking at contemporary issues in legal theory and the general concepts of law, Law and Society will give you a deeper insight into the role of law in everyday life. As well as forming part of the distance learning BA (Hons) Business Management and Law course, the Law and Society module is also available to study on a standalone basis as part of your personal development.

Law and Society

This module raises, and gives answers to, fundamental questions about the role of the law in society. It will introduce you to a range of theoretical perspectives and contemporary debates about the nature of law, such as the concept of the rule of law and ideas of citizenship. The principal aim of the module is to give a philosophical dimension to your studies – helping you relate the study of law to debates about the state and the nature of authority.

Assessment

There are a number of formative assessments that you complete as part of your studies and forward to your academic tutor for grading and comments.

You'll also take a summative assessment at the end of your module. Summative assessments include coursework, exams or a mix of both. Summative assessments take place twice a year and exam venues are located around the UK. Please note that there are additional summative assessment fees for each module.
