History Special Subject

This module enables you to study a theme, period or type of history in depth. You will be presented with a range of special topics, from which you will choose one. The ability to concentrate on a special project in some depth will develop skills in project management useful to employers.

What does the module cover?

The subjects will be chosen to complement the range of topics covered throughout the degree course. You will be advised of the subjects on offer prior to commencement of Level 3.

Key Topics

  • A week-by-week programme will be provided; the module tutor will specify the reading to be done in preparation for each topic.
  • Discussion and analysis of the prescribed texts, and of current critical debates.
  • Instruction on how to carry out relevant research on your topic area.
  • Preparation for the assessment.
  • Critical reflection on what has been learned.

Number of credits and study time

15 credits, equivalent to 150 hours of study.

Assessment

Assessment for this module will comprise one or more tasks, which will take the form of an exam and/ or coursework  (essay, report or presentation).
