Higher Education Study Skills

This module has been specifically written to support you in your studies. Many students who are studying with ICS may not have studied for a long time, or will be relatively new to academic study. There are some important key skills to be learnt – and this module aims to introduce you to these new skills and techniques. As such the module provides a solid foundation to your subsequent studies.

What does the module cover?

Studying by distance learning offers many benefits, not least great flexibility. However, it also presents some challenges and the module begins by detailing the nature of distance learning and key issues that you will need to consider to study successfully. Research is a key component of higher education and the module introduces this process and identifies the main sources of information and how to access them. Most assessment for higher education is produced in written format, so the module explains how to prepare and write the most common forms of assessment, essays and reports. Though examinations have declined as a form of assessment, you will still encounter them during your studies. Accordingly, the module explains how to prepare for, and undertake, examinations at this level.
