Infection Control

Today more than ever, infection control is an essential part of nursing practice.  Through this module, you’ll discover how to evaluate, analyse and apply infection control practices to a range of clinical situations.  You’ll learn how to apply knowledge of microbiology to prevent infection, as well as applying basic concepts of immunology.  You’ll also analyse a selection of current infection control interventions.

What does the module cover?

Learn to apply knowledge of microbiology in order to promote health by preventing infection.  Relate basic concepts of immunology to the prevention and control of infection.  Analyse a selection of current infection control interventions, which are evidence-based and comply with recommended policies. Evaluate the role of epidemiology in policy development for the control of infection and communicable diseases.

Assessment

You’ll also be required to complete two summative assessments for this module that count towards your final grade

  • Multi-choice Question Exam (30%)
  • A clinical-based incident essay - 2,500 words (70%)
