Personal Lives, Identities & Social Care

Building on your earlier studies of supporting children, young people and families in Level 1, this module will help you further develop understanding and insights into the personal nature of social care and social policy.  You’ll explore gendered experiences, demographic change and changing lifestyles – as well as debates around changing social identities, in everyday life.

What does the module cover?

Learn how to put family relationships in their socio-historical context.  Adopt a critical and theoretical approach when thinking about changing lifestyles, families and gender roles, and how these relate to changing social identities.  Develop an awareness of how different social groups might be defined by their lifestyle choices and/or living arrangements.  Think about the connections between social policy, social care, and changing lifestyles and social identities in the contexts of multiculturalism and demographic change.  Recognise the complexity of issues surrounding sexual and reproductive health and rights.
